Taxes Part, Creedon's Art, Dunkin Closed, Signups Start

Summer begins to wind down as registrations prepare us for fall activities, taxes are erased for a week on most of your clothing buys and renovations take place here and there around town:

  • Renovations have closed Dunkin Donuts in downtown Darien (since 2 p.m. Saturday) for almost a week until Friday afternoon. Meanwhile, Espresso NEAT, about a block away at 20 Grove St., returns to its regular hours on Monday (7 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to its Facebook page). In the other direction, Starbucks at 815 Post Rd. is open from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Good Food, Good Things, after a week of renovations last week, reopened today as All Good Things, and they're also known for their coffee.
  • Maintenance closings continue at the Darien YMCA this week: The large pool remains closed (reopens Monday, Aug. 26); the small pool and men's steam room both close on Tuesday and reopen Monday, Aug. 26; the gymnasium remains closed until Wednesday, Aug. 21; the Play Room/Babysitting Room remains closed until Friday, Aug. 23; Fitness Classes 1 and 2 resume Monday.
  • From the announcement on the Darien Library website: "Registration for Fall Session 1 storytimes begins Monday, Aug. 19 and ends Tuesday, Sept. 3. Fall Session 1 storytimes run from Monday, September 9 to Friday, October 18. Be sure to head over to this link on our website to sign up after Monday, Aug. 19."

  • Pastel works by Paul Creedon of New Canaan are on view through the end of August at Darien Rowayton Bank at 1001 Post Rd. in downtown Darien. The award winning artist is an exhibiting member at Rowayton Arts Center and formerly was an illustrator for Bostonia magazine.
